The Fall Skin Reset: Your October Guide to Glowing, Healthy Skin in Northern Virginia

Fall is officially here in Northern Virginia and while we love the cooler mornings, changing leaves and everything pumpkin season brings, your skin may be noticing the change too.

As temperatures and humidity begin to drop across Vienna, Tysons, McLean, Great Falls and the surrounding Northern Virginia area, many of my patients start noticing something familiar: their skin suddenly feels drier, duller or more sensitive.

October is also when I start hearing another question in the treatment room:

“What should I start doing now if I want my skin to look refreshed for the holidays?”

The answer usually isn't one treatment.

Beautiful, natural-looking results come from understanding what your skin needs and creating a plan that combines skin health, collagen support and thoughtfully selected aesthetic treatments.

At LAVOUCHE MedSpa in Vienna, VA, our philosophy has always been simple: we don't want to change the way you look. We want to help you look refreshed, healthy and naturally rejuvenated.

Here is what I am recommending patients think about this October.

Fall Is the Perfect Time to Focus on Skin Quality

One of the biggest shifts happening in aesthetics is a move away from simply “filling” every line. Patients are increasingly interested in skin quality, collagen preservation and natural-looking rejuvenation.

I love this direction because good aesthetic medicine should never be about chasing every wrinkle. Healthy, hydrated and well-supported skin can completely change how refreshed the face looks.

Depending on your skin and goals, your fall treatment plan may include options such as:

  • Microneedling

  • Morpheus8

  • Chemical peels

  • PRP treatments

  • Collagen-stimulating treatments such as Sculptra or Radiesse

  • Skin-hydration treatments

  • A personalized medical-grade skincare routine

At LAVOUCHE MedSpa, these treatments are never automatically recommended just because they are popular. Your skin type, pigmentation, facial anatomy, medical history, lifestyle and desired amount of downtime all matter.

The goal is not more treatment. The goal is the right treatment.

Don't Forget Your Skin Barrier When the Weather Changes

Northern Virginia weather can change quickly in October. Cooler outdoor air combined with indoor heating can leave skin feeling dry, tight or irritated. This is when I often recommend simplifying rather than adding ten new skincare products.

The American Academy of Dermatology recommends moisturizing consistently when skin becomes dry and notes that creams and ointments generally provide more hydration than lighter lotions. Ingredients such as ceramides and hyaluronic acid can also help support hydration.

And yes, you still need sunscreen. Even when summer is over. UV exposure doesn't disappear because you're wearing a sweater.

One of my favorite anti-aging recommendations is also one of the simplest: Protect the collagen you already have.

A broad-spectrum SPF 30 or higher should remain part of your morning routine throughout fall and winter.

There's Actually New Sunscreen News in 2026

Here is a beauty update worth knowing. This summer, the FDA added bemotrizinol as a permitted active ingredient in over-the-counter sunscreen products.

Why is that interesting?

It was the first new sunscreen active ingredient added to the U.S. OTC sunscreen monograph since the late 1990s. Bemotrizinol has already been used internationally for years, and this development could eventually give American consumers additional sunscreen formulation options.

For anyone interested in anti-aging, sunscreen innovation matters. We can invest in Botox, fillers, microneedling and collagen stimulation, but daily UV protection remains an essential part of maintaining healthy-looking skin.

Should You Get Botox Before the Holidays?

If Botox, Dysport or another neuromodulator is part of your beauty routine, October and early November are good times to start thinking about your holiday calendar. Neurotoxins are designed to temporarily reduce targeted muscle activity that contributes to dynamic expression lines.

Common treatment areas can include:

  • Forehead lines

  • Frown lines

  • Crow's feet

  • Bunny lines

  • Lip flip

  • Gummy smile

  • Certain lower-face concerns

But Botox should not make everyone look exactly the same. I evaluate facial movement, muscle strength, symmetry, brow position and your personal goals before determining an appropriate treatment plan.

Some patients want a very smooth result. Others tell me: “Vida, I still want movement. I just want to look refreshed.”

And that is completely reasonable. Natural-looking Botox isn't necessarily about using the least amount possible. It is about placing an appropriate amount in the right areas for your anatomy and desired result.

Thinking About Filler? Think Balance - Not Volume

The conversation around dermal filler has changed significantly. More patients are asking for subtle facial balancing rather than dramatic volume. That's a good conversation to have.

Dermal fillers can be used in appropriately selected patients to address areas such as the lips, cheeks, chin, jawline, temples and certain facial lines. But filler is a medical procedure, not simply a beauty service.

The FDA specifically recommends receiving dermal filler from a licensed healthcare provider experienced in injections and facial anatomy. Common temporary effects can include swelling, bruising, redness and tenderness, while rare but serious complications can occur.

That is why consultation, anatomy and product selection matter. At LAVOUCHE, our goal with filler is for someone to notice that you look refreshed, not immediately identify what you had done.

Sometimes that means filler. Sometimes another treatment is more appropriate. And sometimes my recommendation is to do nothing at all.

Knowing when not to inject is part of responsible aesthetic medicine.

October Is Collagen Season

One of the conversations I'm having more frequently with patients is: “How can I improve my skin without just adding filler?” This is where collagen-focused treatments become interesting.

Our skin naturally changes as we age. Instead of focusing exclusively on replacing volume, we can also consider treatments designed to support collagen remodeling or improve skin texture and firmness.

At LAVOUCHE, depending on the patient, that conversation may include treatments such as:

Microneedling - creates controlled micro-injuries to initiate the skin's healing response and collagen production.

Morpheus8 - combines microneedling with radiofrequency energy to target deeper layers of the skin.

Sculptra - an injectable biostimulator used to gradually stimulate collagen and restore structural support in appropriately selected patients.

Radiesse/Hyperdilute Radiesse - another option that may be incorporated into certain facial or skin-rejuvenation plans.

These treatments aren't interchangeable, and not everyone is a candidate for every procedure. That is exactly why your consultation matters.

Start Your Holiday Glow Plan Before the Holiday Party

One mistake I see every year is waiting until the week before an important event to start aesthetic treatments.

Give yourself time.

Dermal filler can temporarily cause swelling or bruising. Collagen-stimulating treatments work gradually. Microneedling and resurfacing treatments may involve temporary redness, dryness or peeling. Your treatment schedule should account for those possibilities.

If you have holiday parties, family photos, weddings, travel or other important events coming up in November or December, October is a much better time to create your plan.

Think of aesthetic medicine as planning, not panic.

The Lavouche Approach: Natural, Personalized Aesthetics

Beauty trends will always change. One year everyone wants dramatic lips. The next year everyone wants their filler dissolved. I don't believe your face should follow a trend.

At LAVOUCHE MedSpa, we want to understand your face, your skin, your concerns and your goals.

For one patient, the best fall refresh might be Botox and a chemical peel. Another patient may benefit from microneedling and a better home skincare routine. Someone else may need subtle facial balancing with filler. And another patient may simply need reassurance that she doesn't need anything.

That personalized approach is what aesthetic medicine should be.

Ready for Your Fall Refresh?

If you're not sure whether you need Botox, filler, microneedling, a chemical peel, collagen stimulation, or simply a better skincare plan, start with a consultation.

At LAVOUCHE MedSpa we’ll look at the whole picture and create a treatment plan designed around you. Because beautiful aesthetic results shouldn't announce themselves. They should simply look like you, refreshed.
